TELEPSYCHIATRY
Telepsychiatry is the delivery of psychiatric care through videoconferencing. It was initially developed as a measure to provide psychiatric coverage to rural, underserved areas due to the national shortage of psychiatrists, especially child and adolescent psychiatrists. It has grown tremendously over the years and is a great alternative for patients with limited mobility, medical disabilities and severe anxiety. Los Angeles is a busy city, and traffic can make driving to an appointment time consuming and stressful, making telepsychiatry an appealing and convenient option for many.
Dr. Schirch trained in telepsychiatry during her fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and continued to treat patients in rural areas of central California while living abroad in England for over 2 yrs. She has been able to remotely provide consistent care for kids in residential treatment institutions, and has given second opinions and collaborated with international providers in her home country, Colombia.
Dr. Schirch offers telepsychiatry appointments throughout the week upon request.
